Your Organization May Now Qualify

More nonprofits serving Somerset County now are eligible for a reimbursement program designed to help them cover the cost of serving our community through the pandemic.

To provide assistance to as many nonprofits as possible through the Somerset County COVID-19 Nonprofit Assistance Grant Program, Somerset County Commissioners have made an important change to the grant program’s eligibility requirements. Organizations that previously have received funding originating from the federal CARES Act now are eligible to apply for reimbursements through the Nonprofit Assistance Grant Program.

“To get these critical funds to all nonprofit organizations responding to the challenges of COVID-19 in our communities, the county has waived this requirement from our eligibility guidelines for the nonprofit grant program,” Somerset County Commissioners’ Board Chair Gerald Walker said.

To accommodate additional interest, the application deadline has been extended to 11:59 p.m. Nov. 30. Nonprofits can find eligibility information or apply online at our Grants Page.

Through the program, nonprofits can apply for up to $5,000 in reimbursements for COVID-related expenses incurred since March 1 that were specifically used to serve Somerset County residents, including operational expenses, costs for increased sanitation, and expenses arising from responding to increased needs among low income families and those in Somerset County disproportionately affected by the pandemic. (Please see the grant application for a full list of eligible expense types.)

Applicants may also request grants to cover estimates for eligible purchases they would like to make prior to Dec. 30. Reimbursement awards are expected to be announced by mid-December. To be eligible, an organization must be IRS-designated as a 501(c)(3) with fewer than 50 employees and must either have headquarters in Somerset County or have COVID-related expenses specific to Somerset County.
