Three area high school seniors were each awarded a scholarship on Sunday evening in honor of Brad Wess.
Tyler McCall from Forest Hills received a scholarship and will be attending Penn Highlands Community College in the fall. Trace McBreen of Central Cambria also received a scholarship and has enlisted to be in the US Air Force Academy after graduation. Nicholas Brlanksky, a senior at Richland, received a scholarship and will be attending Point Park University next fall.
Sunday was the 8th year for the ‘Brad Wess Memorial Scholastic Showcase.’ It was created to honor and celebrate Brad’s life. The 16-year-old’s family personally awards the scholarships in his memory. Brad died in a car crash on October 19, 2007. He was a junior at Forest Hills High School where he excelled academically and played hockey.
The memorial game is held at the Cambria County War Memorial each year and has awarded more than $11,000 in scholarships to seniors in the area since it started.
This year about 50 seniors from area schools participated in the game; three were awarded scholarships after the event. For more information on the scholarship fund in Brad’s memory click on hockey.
