New Somerset Area Fund Aims Helps Hurting Workers

Similar to the Greater Johnstown Service Industry Relief Fund, another new fund aims to help a broad range of workers: anyone whose business has been unable to operate as normal this year, such as restaurants or gyms. The effort would be focused on people employed at businesses in the Somerset area.

Local economic leaders wanted to do something to help those dealing with the hardships related to the pandemic and shutdown, so they has established the Somerset County Worker Relief Fund at CFA. Fundraising will begin immediately, Somerset County Economic Development Council Executive Director Joshua Boland said.

“This time of year heating bills are high, holiday bills are expected, and health is uncertain,” he said. “It’s a devastating time to be without a paycheck, and some of the hardest working folks in our area are being left without options to provide for their families or are being forced to make impossible decisions between heating their homes or feeding their families. We’ve created this fund because the need is great and we know that those who are able want to help. Every donation big and small will have a direct impact on Somerset County Service Industry Workers, allowing them to provide for their families and their own well-being as they continue to navigate financial uncertainty.”
