The Foundation’s ten Youth Philanthropy Interns have released a CD of radio documentaries, produced during their 8-week internship. The pieces are also available here. In assessing community needs through site visits, research, and community service opportunities, the students chose to shine a light on areas of interest that they thought needed some attention in our community. The entire process, from story development to interview skills, technical equipment operations, and final editing, was facilitated through SLB Radio Productions.
In addition to individual “Reflections” on the program itself, topics include:
- The Heart of Bedford
- Mining for the Truth
- Voices of Poverty
- Advocating Acceptance
The program is made possible through a grant from The Heinz Endowments and is based on its long-running similar program in Pittsburgh. Throughout their internship, students assessed community needs and developed two funding opportunities for local nonprofits to apply for grants of up to $25,000 to address these needs. In addition to their grantmaking, interns created these radio documentaries.
