The Demon Barber of Fleet Street will make its Johnstown debut on February 15, 2015. The Community Foundation for the Alleghenies and the Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center have completed casting for their benefit presentation of Sweeney Todd in Concert at Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center on Sunday, February 15, 2015, at 2 p.m. The concert proceeds will benefit the Arts Coalition of the Alleghenies, according to Michael Bodolosky, Executive Director.
The concert will feature Broadway performers alongside area talent. Scheduled at this time to appear are Scott Logsdon (Broadway’s LES MISERABLES and Richland Performing Arts Center’s CHESS In Concert) as Sweeney, Liz McCartney (Big Sue in Broadway’s TABOO, Rosie in Broadway’s MAMMA MIA and Madame Morrible in the national company of WICKED) and Mary Setrakian (whose credits include Broadway’s HELLO, DOLLY with Carol Channing , Madame Giry in the PHANTOM OF THE OPERA national tour and the national company of LES MISERABLES) as the Beggar Woman. Logsdon will also direct.
Other nationally recognized talent in the concert are Michael Marra (Broadway’s LES MISERABLES and the national company of JEKYLL & HYDE), who will play the villainous Judge Turpin. Buck Dietz (THE SOUND OF MUSIC and the American premiere of CHILDREN OF EDEN) will portray Pirelli. Both were cast members from RPAC’s CHESS in Concert.Rounding out the principal cast are Mickey Orange as Anthony, Noelle Patrick as Johanna, Isaac McNulty as Tobias, Jeffrey Webb as The Beadle, Mary B. Mauzy as Lucy and Nathan Magee as Fogg.
The ensemble and chorus will be comprised of Jean Arcurio, Tony Anthony, Kevin Bean, Mallory Bean, Ariana Bittner, Maggie Bodorach, Jayme Brooks, Alexis Buncich, Nathan Cook, Johnna Cwik, Josh Devett, Kelly Devett, Laura Eidem, Tessa Evans, Emily Felton, Sam Fuge, Cassandra Gallina, Amber M. Gobbel, Jess Hann, Matt Harris, Cheyenne Helsel, Carrie Law, Mari Grace Lingenfelter, Tony Malvoisin, Mary B. Mauzy, Chris McAllister, Jacob Meager, Michael Nicholson, Jennifer M. Oaks, Jonathan Pauley, Morgan Rickley, Joshua Rinaman, Hunter Tresnicky, Ian Wieczorek, Kelly Jo Wise, Gregory Zaborowski and Rachel Zaborowski. Also in the cast are Zach Leventry, Emily Peters and Paul Tretter. Matt Thomas will be the musical director.
“I was asked to direct this concert utilizing talent from the area to raise funds and awareness for the Arts Coalition of the Alleghenies” explains Logsdon. “I called some of my Broadway friends who were happy to donate their time and talents to work with our exceptional local cast. We are thrilled to be joining forces for this wonderful cause in such a beautiful space.”
Sweeney Todd is based on the 19th century legend of a London barber driven to a life of crime after a malevolent judge takes his wife and child from him. Sweeney’s plan for revenge includes a cutthroat partnership with Mrs. Lovett—an enterprising businesswoman—who is soon producing the tastiest meat pies in town.
