The Wellington Fund, a new donor advised fund with the Community Foundation has announced its 2023 grant recipients. The eight organizations to receive funding will use the grants to support a variety of projects, but most are centered on education, mentorship, and feeding the hungry.
A total of $110,000, on behalf of an anonymous donor, has been granted to the following eight organizations:
- Cambria County Backpack Project, $10,000, Facility Expansion
- Flood City Youth Fitness Academy, $25,000, Program Retention/Expansion
- Laurel View Village, $25,000, Certified Nurse Aid Training Program
- Mom’s House of Johnstown, Inc., $10,000, Community Recreation Center
- St. Steven’s Memorial Holy Church, $10,000, Kolorful Kids Daycare Upgrades
- St. Vincent De Paul, $10,000, Saturday’s Kitchen Programming
- The Watersmith Guild, $10,000, First Waves-Alleghenies Programming
- United Way of the Southern Alleghenies, $10,000, Early Childhood Education Coordinator
“We are delighted that these longtime supporters of the Community Foundation have taken this next step in defining their legacy to our region by permanently establishing the Wellington Fund. The Community Foundation is uniquely equipped to help people make their local philanthropy more impactful. Often, when donors come to us, they may not be aware of the charitable work going on in our community. In this case, the Wellington Fund donors knew they wanted to support children, education, and food insecurity, but needed more information. Our grantmaking staff was able to get them the information they needed from local nonprofits so they could make their important decisions. It’s a great example of how the Community Foundation connects people with the causes that matter most to them. With a donor advised fund, they can now annually support the causes that matter the most to them, but leave the more tedious aspects of philanthropy, like paperwork, financial oversight, and reporting, up to us.” said CFA Executive Director and President Mike Kane.
