About CFA’s Scholarship Review Process
May is graduation season, and for us, this means scholarships! We administer more than 250 scholarship funds annually for all types of students. Have you ever wondered about how these awards are decided?
Once scholarship applications are received, we have three ways to select award winners.
- The scholarship donors use their own committee of at least three individuals to help them select the winner(s)
- The local high school’s scholarship committee selects the winner(s)
- CFA’s Volunteer Scholarship Review Committee selects the winner(s)
CFA’s Volunteer Scholarship Review Committee was formed at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic to address the needs of our scholarship donors during a challenging time in our schools and communities. The committee’s six volunteers review scholarship applications for more than a dozen of our scholarship awards virtually from the comfort of their own home or office, at their own pace. We provide them with the selection criteria for each award (as directed by our donors), and they complete a scored rubric for each applicant. For each award, the applicant with the highest combined score will be selected as the winner. Each review member brings their own unique experiences in the education, business, banking, military, environmental, and healthcare fields to the table and provides crucial insight and feedback. Our committee members don’t know the students or our scholarship donors, making this an incredibly fair and unbiased committee who seeks only support local students by fulfilling the wishes of our scholarship donors. We’re so grateful for the invaluable service they provide us year after year!
