Fundraising is underway for the region’s coldest, wettest, charity drive. The Quemahoning Chillin’ for Charity Winter Festival and Arctic Splash dives into freezing waters Saturday, February 11th. More than a dozen nonprofit organizations come together for this annual event, benefiting a variety of causes that support our community. What started 5 years as a simple polar plunge has expanded into a full day of jollies, with sleigh rides, live music, food, and other activities.
The fun, light-hearted event tackles serious causes. This year’s participants are feeding underserved children, engaged with crime prevention, promoting civil rights, and getting young kids moving with sports programs and outdoor adventures. They’re navigating the legal system for vulnerable minors, rehabilitating abused animals, and providing free medical care for people who need it.
The Community Foundation for the Alleghenies manages all the funds associated with Chillin’ for Charity. These are groups raising money through this year’s drive:
Cambria/Somerset CASA Beginnings
Camp PARC
Coaches 4 Kids
Commission on Hope
Johnstown Backpack Project
NAACP Adult & Youth Units
North Star Elementary Playground Project
North Star Girls’ Basketball Team
PAWS House, Inc.
The Ethel Fund
Want to give but can’t pick just one cause? Donate anytime to the Chillin’ for Charity General Support Fund, and come on out to the Quemahoning Family Recreation Area on February 11th to cheer on your favorite team – or take the dive yourself!
