JOHNSTOWN — A fund has been set up to create a park in honor of fallen West End paramedic Janice Keen-Livingston, and first responders for generations to come.

Members of West End Ambulance along with Officers from Johnstown Police and Fire Departments announced Thursday, May 28, 2015 the construction of the Public Safety Memorial park.

“This park will honor all three services,” said Erin Kabler, Johnstown Police. “Anyone who has served in public safety that was killed in the line of duty can be honored here.”

The park is named for Keen- Livingston who passed away in March.  She was killed while responding to a vehicle crash; she was 38 years old and well known in the community. The Johnstown woman was a paramedic supervisor and training officer for West End Ambulance Association and also a part-time paramedic for Hilltop Ambulance Association. The mother of two young girls was also a CPR instructor and a member of Lower Yoder Volunteer Fire Company.

“This is our tribute to her and others,” said Kabler.

The park is expected to take two years to complete. Kabler said fundraisers are being planned to help cover the cost.  A fund to support the Janice Keen-Livingston Memorial Park Fund was set up through the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies where donations can be sent.

The park will be built at Chandler Avenue and Garfield Street in Johnstown’s West End neighborhood.
