JOHNSTOWN — Allison Vaughn was tragically killed on March 31, 2015. Her co-workers started a fund at the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies in her memory to raise awareness about domestic violence.
“We have over 500 funds here at the Foundation,” said Nancy Marley, Donor Services. “Many are personal and in honor of loved ones to help a cause in their memory.”
The 30-year-old was a 2007 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, and worked at 1st Summit Bank for more than eight years.
Vaughn was originally from Mount Union where her parents, Constance (Winfree) Vaughn and James “Butchie” Vaughn, still reside. Born March 24, 1985, Vaughn was a 2003 graduate from Mount Union Area High School but lived in Richland Township, Cambria County.
Vaughn’s death was a result of domestic violence. Her boyfriend, David Leon Johnson, confessed to Richland Township Police that he killed her. The motive, according to District Attorney Kelly Callihan, was drug related; she was stabbed and strangled because she allegedly would not give Johnson money to buy drugs.
Shortly after Vaughn’s death, her co-workers at 1st Summit Bank wanted to honor her memory by establishing an ongoing fund.
“The Foundation will help each fund, making it easier to do good,” said Marley. “In this case, Vaughn’s memory will live on by raising money for domestic violence awareness.”
The Allison N. Vaughn Memorial Fund through CFA is set up to benefit domestic violence victims. Each year, funds will be donated to specific domestic violence organizations and agencies in the region. Donations can be made at any 1st Summit Bank Community Office or mailed directly to the Foundation:
