Community Foundation president Mike Kane presented representatives of the Greater Johnstown Community YMCA with a $200,000 check towards its Capital Expansion/Renovation Project. The check represents the combined grant awards from three Foundation funds: the Penelec Sustainable Energy Fund, the Community Initiatives Fund, and the unrestricted grantmaking recommended by the Distribution Committee.
Mike Kane, President and Executive Director of the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies commented, “Two-hundred thousand dollars is a lot of money, and the advisers to the three funds at the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies that provided this amount of support shared our position that YMCA is a valued community asset. We particularly value it as a safe, healthy place for children and young people and are looking forward to seeking both the energy efficient renovation and the expansion of the youth center. It is also a testament to our community and the YMCA leadership of how much support has been garnered for this project. Their efforts at making our community better are to be commended.”
Ed Sheehan, YMCA Capital Campaign Co-Chair, added, “I am very pleased that the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies through their various funds have stepped up to assist with funding. I view this as a testament to the importance of this Capital Campaign and the YMCA in the Region.”
