4th of July Picnic
The Community Foundation for the Alleghenies and the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra have announced plans to combine two of their annual summertime events into one big community celebration in downtown Johnstown on the 4th of July.
The Community Foundation typically hosts an annual Founder’s Day event to thank its donors and report to the public on its activities from the previous year. For 2014, that event will be a pre-concert picnic at Peoples Natural Gas Park and Oilhouse from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 4. The fare will be as American as apple pie – which will be served for dessert – along with a complimentary picnic of hamburgers and hotdogs, salads, iced tea, and lemonade. There will be a cash bar serving beer and wine.
“We look forward, each year, to highlighting a few of our projects and accomplishments. Because of our donors we are growing quickly, and the story we will share is a positive one for our community. We also will have an announcement regarding plans for the upcoming year,” said Mike Kane, president of the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies. “Hosting this as a pre-reception for the Symphony’s concert and fireworks is a great way to celebrate the day, our wonderful symphony, and our community all at once. We encourage symphony goers who may not know much about the Foundation to join us, too.”
After the picnic, guests are invited to go directly to the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra’s 4th of July concert and fireworks at the Point Stadium. The concert will begin at 8 p.m. and will be held rain or shine. (In case of rain, the concert will be held in the War Memorial and fireworks will either continue as planned or be cancelled, depending on the severity of the storm.) Dress is casual. Admission to both the picnic and concert is free, although tickets are required for the picnic.Tickets will only be available June 9 – 27.
