Scholarships make up about a third of the Community Foundation’s funds. This year alone, CFA funds awarded more than $500,000 in scholarships for local students.
One of the benefits we offer our donors is the opportunity to double their impact through PATH. The PATH Match Program is a special partnership with PHEAA (Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency) that allows us to match our scholarship grants on a dollar-for-dollar basis up to $2,500 for eligible undergraduate students who attend Pennsylvania schools of higher education. There are fewer than 40 PATH Partners in the state and the CFA is the only one in our region.
Because of this partnership, over 120 local students – 41% of CFA scholarship recipients – collectively received an additional $128,654 in matched funding for the 2017-18 school year. This is a $20,000+ increase from the previous year.
Here’s a geographic breakdown of PATH matches awarded through the CFA:
- $27,298 in Bedford County
- $57,006 in Cambria County
- $38,800 in Somerset County
- $1,300 in Indiana County
- $4,250 in other counties
We know our scholarship program has an impact. By supporting post-secondary education, donors create opportunities for young people to get training and establish careers close to home, laying the foundation for a successful generation, and fighting the “brain drain” that plagues our region.
We hear from CFA scholarship recipients all the time. Here’s a small handful of young people who’ve recently expressed their gratitude for the support that empowers them to reach for the stars:
