Jennerstown Playground
Jennerstown Playground

This beautiful playground was installed in Jennerstown last weekend, less than a year after a group of residents decided to rally their community for dramatic park improvements.

A community build was the culmination of an ambitious, high-energy campaign to raise $60,000 for renovations and a new playground. Within a few months the Jennerstown Recreation Committee raised more than a third of its goal, enough to purchase and install the large piece of play equipment.

The group has also been able to expand the parking lot, replace a swing set, and purchase two toy riders for small children.

Sixty volunteers showed up for the build, with a wide range of skills, and a whole lot of community spirit. “We’re grateful to everyone who donated time, equipment and support for the community build,” says JRC founding member Jake Fleegle. “We’re excited to share this park with anyone who wants to come out and play.”

The Community Foundation partners with the Jennerstown Recreation Committee as its nonprofit fund manager. The JRC also received $2,000 through the CFA’s Fall 2016 grant distribution.

Fundraising continues, to tackle these additional projects:
• Complete basketball renovation
• Surface for under the play unit
• Picnic tables, benches, bike rack, and garbage cans
• Underground power and water run to pavilion
• Handicap parking area

The Jennerstown Recreation Committee is on track to have a completely renovated, multi-use, outdoor recreation area for its community in time for the summer play months.
