Gourmet Meal with Wine Pairing

The Green Gables setting is picture-perfect, its rustic dining room surrounded by lush, green trees, rolling hills, and a babbling brook. “Green Gables delights in supporting this event and delights in supporting our community,” says owner Mary Louise Stoughton.

Patrons will have the pleasure of hearing from Vivino Selections‘ Mark Vitale, who tells wonderful stories about his work as a wine importer and distributor, about working with wine makers all over the world, and about some of the special relationships he’s developed with specific wineries.

The highlight of the evening is a multi-course dinner with wine pairing. Mary Louise began by working with Mark to choose five wines from his portfolio, which is very strong in Italy. She then worked with Executive Chef Shay MacDonald to develop the menu, which unfolded quickly as they went through their wine selection. “I’ve never met someone who finds pairings so easily and so creatively,” says Mary Louise. “Shay is wonderfully talented, and excited about the menu he’s going to serve.” A menu the executive chef will be cooking himself.

Fundraising for Local Nonprofits

Proceeds from Cuvee Community 2017 are shared between the Westmoreland County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Pittsburgh Foundation, and the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies. In turn, funding goes directly into local programs, improving youth, health, education, and economic development. A portion of the proceeds also goes to Tranquility Gardens, a wellness retreat adjacent to Johnstown. “Cuvee is about teamwork and friendship,” says CFA President Mike Kane. “Getting together to share fundraising allows us to help each other, learn from each other, and empower effective nonprofit activity on a large scale.”

Westmoreland’s Community Foundation will use its portion of the funds raised to establish a match pool for Westmoreland County’s Day of Giving, during which “we will assist 150 nonprofit organizations in using our online platform to raise more than $500,000 to support their missions. These donations will be matched through a prorated match pool of $50,000,” according to Phil Koch, who leads The Community Foundation of Westmoreland County.
