What is the Bedford County Endowments?

The Bedford County Endowments

Bedford County is one of Pennsylvania's treasures--vibrant, engaging, and beautiful--with a rich history and promising future. Donors who want to support what they care about in Bedford County--arts, education, civic issues, economic development, religion, children and youth issues, heritage, and environmental programs--are welcome to do so by establishing funds with the Bedford County Endowments through the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies.

The job of the Endowments, and its director, Kay Reynolds, is to work with donors to best meet their needs by listening to what the donors want and making it happen in whatever way possible. Donors may establish a variety of types of funds and may receive significant tax deductions.  Please refer to the How to Give and Types of Funds sections in this report for more information.

In the past few years, the Bedford County Endowments has assisted people like you, who want to support Bedford County, through providing a means of doing just that in a simple, professional manner.  People have established endowments to support the things they value in Bedford County.  These endowments become permanent gifts, from which each year, forever, the income produced is distributed according to the direction of the donors.  It is our donors’ way of leaving their footprints by supporting what they care about.   It is the mission of the Bedford County Endowments to assist our donors.

Memorial Hospital of Bedford Hospital

This past June the Memorial Hospital of Bedford County Foundation entered into formal arrangement with the Bedford Count Endowments and its affiliate, the Community Foundation fro the Alleghenies, to manage its funds.

“This is good for Bedford County,” said John Blackburn, one of the advisors to the newly created Memorial Hospital of Bedford County Fund.  “This arrangement reduces the cost of managing the Fund and allows us to continue to provide scholarships and make distributions according to our recommendations.  This means less money will be spent on overhead.”

Through the years the Memorial Hospital of Bedford County Foundation has provided scholarships to Bedford County students who are interested in the health care field and who intend to return to Bedford County upon graduation.  It has also supported other charitable efforts in Bedford County, particular relating to Memorial Hospital of Bedford County.  The Foundation grew through support of local donors interested in the supporting health care in the community.

“We appreciate the opportunity to work with the Fund and its advisors,” said Kay Reynolds, director of the Bedford County Endowments.  “The job of the Bedford County Endowments is to work with donors who want to be supportive of Bedford County, whether through scholarships or through giving to charities the donors care about.”

In addition to the new fund for the Memorial Hospital of Bedford County, a number of funds have been established to support Bedford County.

The Bedford Springs Music Festival fund was created under the Bedford County Endowments to raise funds. The campaign was extremely successful, and the premiere festival took place from July 12 through August 4, 2007.
